I like to imagine that this Heron was content to simply relax and enjoy herself on a warm moonlit evening, after a long and busy day. As Wendell Berry said: “For a time, I rest in the grace of the world, and am free”.
Herons sleep in trees at night to avoid being caught by predators on the ground. They have special receptors in their eyes that help them with their night vision and enable them to hunt fish at night. At full moon, they find fishing easy. They can often be seen standing in the cool night air after twilight.
